On 10 April, our Vinnies Vans team was proud to host a vibrant get-together at the Riverwood Community Centre, joined by Mr Zhi Soon, MP for Banks. 

It was a special night that bought people together in the spirit of connection and kindness.  Zhi was generous with his time and effort, rolling up his sleeves to assist with drinks, helping to serve meals and most importantly, taking the time to engage with community members and hear their stories. 

While we initially anticipated serving around 150 people, close to 200 residents came along to share a meal and connect.  It was a powerful reminder of both the growing need in our community and the importance of these gatherings in creating a wider sense of belonging for people. 

The evening also gave us the opportunity to share more about the work of Vinnies Vans and the wider Vinnies Services – who we support and how our wraparound services aim to assist people beyond immediate needs.  Zhi expressed interest in our work and committed his support moving forward. 

Events like this highlight what can be achieved when community, volunteers and local leaders come together.  Thank you to all our volunteers who contributed to making the night such a success.
